Compare Auto Parts Shipping Quotes to Africa
Two shipping prices can differ substantially even when both describe an auto-parts shipment to the same country. One may use estimated carton dimensions, while the other includes the final crates. One may cover a workshop delivery, while the other ends at a different handover point.

Quick answer
Compare like with like. Send every provider the same shipment request, then check the quotation basis, DDP wording, chargeable measurements and which work is included or still yours. Do not apply one route's formula to another, and decide using confirmed scope and your practical priorities.
For this step, see Preliminary shipping estimate.
Before deciding which offer is better, put both quotations on the same factual basis. The aim is to identify the service you would actually receive and the decisions still outstanding. An unexplained difference is a question to resolve, not proof of a hidden charge or poor service.
JTLGO offers broad Africa DDP coverage and auto-parts expertise, with South Africa DDP now available. A useful comparison starts with the specific cargo and location being assessed.
Send one version of the shipment request
Prepare a dated request that both providers can use. Include part descriptions and numbers where known, quantities, condition, origin and destination. Disclose batteries, fluids, safety devices and other relevant cargo characteristics. If a supplier changes a component, update both requests before comparing the responses.
Add the package count, external dimensions and gross weight for each packed unit. State clearly whether these are measured figures, supplier estimates or still unknown. A loose part's weight and the weight of its finished crate are different inputs.
Describe the actual receiving point and practical conditions. Include the city, postcode where applicable, address type and any known unloading or access needs. Provide the full delivery address privately when needed to confirm scope; identity documents are not part of a basic price-comparison request.
Make the quotation basis visible
Build a comparison sheet using the following structure. Enter the providers' actual answers rather than filling gaps with assumptions.
Scroll sideways or use the arrow keys to see all columns.
| Comparison field | Quote A | Quote B | Question if different or unclear |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cargo-list version and condition | Record version | Record version | Are both pricing the same goods? |
| Packed count, dimensions and weight | Measured or estimated | Measured or estimated | What remains provisional? |
| Origin service | Included or excluded | Included or excluded | Is collection or warehouse receipt the start? |
| Destination and handover point | Exact quoted scope | Exact quoted scope | Is the same onward movement covered? |
| Packing and warehouse work | Itemized scope | Itemized scope | Which requested activities are included? |
| Freight calculation | Quoted basis | Quoted basis | What rules, minimums or special handling apply? |
| Clearance and tax treatment | Stated arrangement | Stated arrangement | Who performs and pays for each role? |
| Unloading and appointments | Agreed arrangement | Agreed arrangement | Is equipment or booking separately priced? |
| Insurance, if offered | Terms and price | Terms and price | What protection is actually being compared? |
| Validity, currency and payment terms | Written conditions | Written conditions | Are both offers usable on the same date? |
Use “included,” “separate,” “not applicable” and “awaiting confirmation” consistently. An empty cell is not the same as zero cost. Keep any condition beside the item it affects so the headline total does not hide an unresolved dependency.
Check DDP wording against the contracts
Incoterms® rules concern buyer and seller obligations in sales contracts. A forwarder's DDP-labelled service quote is a separate agreement; ask how it supports the sale and who performs the import role. The ICC's overview of Incoterms® 2020 explains their role in allocating responsibilities.
If one offer says DDP but asks you to arrange import clearance or pay import duties, request a written explanation of the scope. Do not silently compare it with a conventional DDP sale as though the responsibility split were identical.
Check the named delivery point, unloading arrangements and any insurance offer separately. A three-letter label does not describe every optional warehouse service, product inspection or receiving-site task you might want.
Compare chargeable measurements without importing another route's formula
A large body panel and a compact heavy assembly use space and weight differently. Packaging can also change the physical basis of a freight quote. Ask each provider which rule applies to the proposed service and whether the figures are final.
For example, DHL's weight guidance explains that its dimensional-weight calculation is compared with actual weight for charging. That is an illustration of why physical measurements matter, not a universal JTLGO formula or a rule for every freight mode.
If the charging bases differ, request an explanation using the same package data. Do not insert an online divisor, round dimensions yourself or assume that a quoted per-unit rate produces the final payable total without minimums or other stated conditions.
Separate included work from work you still need
List any necessary activity outside each offer. This might be supplier collection, additional protective packing or a receiving arrangement you explicitly require. Ask for a price where it is available and mark it unresolved where it is not.
Do not estimate another provider's supposed extra charges to make a comparison look complete. You can calculate a known subtotal while keeping unpriced items visible. If an unresolved item could change the decision materially, obtain clarification before choosing.
Also compare what the quoted timing covers. Ask when an estimate begins, what stage it ends at and which readiness assumptions apply. A transport-leg estimate and an end-to-end estimate should not occupy the same comparison row without an explanation.
Decide using confirmed scope and practical priorities
Once both responses refer to the same shipment, decide which confirmed features matter most: a particular delivery point, suitable packing, a manageable receiving plan or clearer coordination. A lower price may be entirely reasonable if it matches your needs. A broader service may also justify a higher total when you need that scope.
Keep the final quote, relevant replies and cargo-list version together. Before accepting, check that the written offer incorporates any important clarification rather than leaving it only in a separate conversation. Identify how later changes will be assessed and who can authorize additional work.
Frequently asked questions
Is the cheapest quote usually missing something?
Price alone does not establish that. Check the inputs and written scope, ask about gaps and compare confirmed information. Avoid treating an unanswered question as evidence of a hidden fee.
Can I compare quotations in different currencies?
Yes, but label any conversion as your comparison estimate, with its date and rate source. Confirm the actual payment currency and applicable payment terms before making a decision.
What if one provider has not measured the cargo?
Treat that offer according to its stated assumptions. Ask what could change after measurement and compare provisional and measured figures explicitly rather than presenting both as final.
Should I remove protective packing to match a lower price?
Ask for suitable packing options and their revised measurements and costs. Decide with the cargo's protection and handling needs in view; a smaller package is not automatically the better option.
Request a comparable JTLGO quote
Send JTLGO your dated parts list, packing details and destination. Identify which services you need and which measurements remain estimated so you can compare the written offer on a clear, consistent basis.
Prepare a specific inquiry
Prepare the item list, quantities, pickup location, carton count, packed dimensions and weight, destination and deadline. Rate & Ship is a preliminary estimate. Ask for manual confirmation of the full charge scope before committing to complex cargo.
